Chrysocolla (Botryoidal) with Minor Copper Silicates on Matrix - Kaokoveld, Namibia
🔬 Scientific Description
This specimen is dominated by botryoidal chrysocolla, a hydrated copper silicate, forming a thick, grape-like surface coating over a darker host rock. The texture is finely nodular to mammillary, with color ranging from soft turquoise to deeper cyan-blue, indicating variable copper concentration during precipitation. Subtle green highlights suggest localized enrichment and possible transitional phases toward other secondary copper minerals. Chrysocolla forms in the oxidation zones of copper deposits, precipitating from copper-rich solutions under low-temperature conditions.
