Chrysocolla with Malachite and Quartz on Copper-Rich Host Rock - Kaokoveld, Namibia
🔬 Scientific Description
This substantial specimen features a deep, open cavity lined with chrysocolla, a hydrated copper silicate, displaying rich turquoise to teal coloration with concentric banding and botryoidal textures. The interior cavity hosts white quartz microcrystals, indicating late-stage silica-rich fluids infilling voids after primary copper mineralization. Surrounding areas show patches of malachite as green crusts and veinlets, confirming formation within the oxidized zone of a copper deposit. The host rock is a dense, weathered copper-bearing matrix, likely iron-rich, showing strong secondary enrichment and structural fracturing that allowed fluid circulation and cavity development.
