Chrysocolla with Azurite and Quartz on Copper-Rich Host Rock - Kaokoveld, Namibia
🔬 Scientific Description
This specimen displays a well-defined vug (open cavity) densely coated with botryoidal chrysocolla (hydrated copper silicate), showing vibrant turquoise to blue-green coloration. Intermixed and rimmed areas of azurite contribute deep cobalt-blue accents, indicating a copper-rich oxidation environment. Minor quartz occurs as microcrystalline silica along cavity edges and within the matrix, formed during late-stage hydrothermal activity. The host rock is iron-rich and strongly weathered, typical of secondary copper mineralization zones where circulating fluids exploited fractures and voids.
